Tuition

Have you always wanted to paint or print but don’t know where to start?  Do you struggle with drawing or composition?  Would you like to try your hand at a new medium?  Let Saffron Studio help.

The current rate for tuition is £30 for a two hour session, or £50 for a full day (10:00am to 4:00pm).  Tuition is based on the requirements of the tutee.  All levels are catered for, from complete beginners, to improvers and more advanced artists, and students requiring mentoring for their own work.  Help, advice, demonstrations and practical work are built into the lessons, with each tutee’s needs taken into consideration. 

The approach is relaxed and friendly, with plenty of time to discuss work as well as try out new techniques and mediums.  It is suggested that each tutee brings a sample of their work to a lesson, if available, so we can discuss ways to move forward or improve your techniques etc. 

By referring to historical references, your work can be put into context – you may not be aware that you are following in the footsteps of artists like Turner or Van Gogh. 

As well as any weaknesses, your strengths will be identified - are you aware of your hidden talent, and could you be making more of this?  Do you struggle with your drawing?  Perhaps there is a technique which eradicates the need.

Choose any subject for your paintings or drawings.  For beginners, still life is recommended to developing the basic skills before progressing onwards.  A variety of interesting and unusual objects are available in the studio for this purpose.

You can either bring your own paints and equipment, or borrow all the basics from the studio.  Watercolour paper and drawing paper is provided, and you can take away any drawings or work you create during a lesson.  Special papers or canvasses etc can be purchased in advance from the studio and made ready for your arrival – please call or email for details or a quotation.  If oil paints have been used and you are worried about smudging your work on its way home, paintings can be left behind to dry and collected at a later date.

For regular attendance, homework can be set for marking at the next lesson – though you will progress at your own pace without any pressure.  If you don’t manage your homework you won’t be punished!  As a final note, hot drinks and biscuits are provided throughout the tuition – as learning to relax is a fundamental part of painting.
